Hardwood Flooring
If you're looking for hardwood you have to first decide if you want solid hardwood or engineered hardwood. Deciding between the two is largely based on the type of subfloor you have. Solid hardwood is recommended only for plywood subfloors while engineered hardwood can be placed on any subfloor including concrete or over radiant heat.
SOLIDSolid hardwood flooring is often viewed as a superior product to engineered flooring, however, with the ever increasing quality of engineered hardwood floors available this is not always the case. Solid hardwood can at times provide a thicker wear layer for a cheaper price than a similar wear layer on an engineered floor but solid hardwood is more for those who appreciate the traditional look and prestige of owning a solid wood floor.
ENGINEEREDEngineered hardwood flooring offers all of the benefits of solid wood flooring but is less susceptible to cupping, expansion, and contraction that can create gaps in your floor with significant changes in temperature or moisture. The bottom layer of plywood gives it the versatility to be placed anywhere while the layer of solid wood on top gives you the luxurious look of solid wood and once it's installed nobody will be able to tell the difference!
